The same amount of effort is required to sell a variety of different items on the internet. As long as you get your target audience right, you’ll be able to sell products. So if that’s the case, why choose low value products which only give you a small percentage of commission?
Some physical products, for example only pay 3-10% commission on sales. You would need to sell continuously in order to make this work as an affiliate. Digital products on the other hand can pay out up to 50% commissions. Your motivation levels can, in part, determine how quickly you can replace your existing income. High ticket products are products which sell for a much larger amount than the standard affiliate products many affiliates sell online. With digital products, you can also earn larger commissions. You would need to sell many $100 items in order to make al living from your 40% commissions. If you chose to sell $2000 items instead, you’ll earn $800 on a sale. Choose $20,000 items to sell and you can earn $8000 on a sale.
Using high ticket items is another game changing decision which can allow your online business to grow and produce an income much faster. It also of course comes down to the steps you take and how dedicated you are in making your online business work. More on this later.
Up-Sells – What Are up-Sells And How Does This Speed Up Affiliate Marketing Progress?
An up-sell is the action of selling a product to an existing customer. You’re probably heard an up-sell at Burger King or McDonald’s. “Do you want fries with that?” is an up-sell. Up-sells work for affiliate marketing too. If you choose a sales funnel with a range of products, you can benefit from later sales made to your customers by an in-house sales team who close sales on your behalf.

How you promote your sales funnel will in large part determine the speed of your success. Of course there are other factors too. Running an advert is no guarantee of success. Your mindset and determination are also factors. Your monthly marketing budget will also play its part.
How Fast Can I Get Results With Affiliate Marketing?
We all want results with our affiliate marketing business. But answering this question is pretty tough. With the above sales structure, a good attitude and with a community of people on hand to help, this can still take between 6 months and year given all the right circumstances such as:
- Time to work on your business daily
- A monthly budget for marketing
- The right attitude and mindset
- A strong work ethic
With no marketing budget, this can set you back some time. I struggled for a few years trying to make affiliate marketing work with only using content marketing. You can still get results, but it will be harder and take longer. Plus, you need to be very disciplined and work very hard at it.
With paid marketing strategies you still have no guarantee of a timeframe. You’re likely to get your first few adverts wrong.
You may focus on the wrong activities and delay making difficult decisions or taking bigger steps out of your comfort zone such as creating video content or using paid marketing.
The Gym Analogy
So, depending on your circumstances and attributes, building an internet business can take some time. If you decide you’ll never quit and have a ‘can do’ attitude, you’ll eventually get there. You still need to learn from your mistakes and let go of any entitlement attitudes which you may have. It’s still a business and you need to take 100% responsibility for all of your successes and failure.
It’s a little like getting a gym membership and expecting the membership alone to give you the results you want. It never happens if you don’t go to the gym and diligently work out. Some people will have an amazing body in a few months, others will be exactly where they are now. It depends on your attitude and work ethic.
If you work hard and focus on a specific goal, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t be able to start earning a regular income from affiliate marketing within 6 months to a year. However, the statistics show that 90% of new affiliate marketers will drop out.
