With digital products your commissions tend to be higher – up to 50% on items sold. Due to manufacture costs, delivery and handling, physical products tend to pay out less to affiliates. But choosing high cost items can certainly be beneficial for affiliates whichever way you do it.
A single sale can earn you thousands, rather than hundreds. Considering much of the work you put in will be the same for both, it’s obvious that there’s more benefit in choosing high cost items. Digital products like courses and software also have another benefit over physical products too. As mentioned earlier, subscription based products like these offer residual, recurring commissions to affiliates.
Monthly Subscriptions Versus High Ticket Product
A single sale which can pay only $20 a month, every month over the long term, can be far better than a physical product sale of $400, for example. Although the high value sale gives you a larger commission straight away, the subscription product wins over the long term in terms of the amount of commission it pays out.
$20 over 12 months gives you $240 per year. This is far better than a single commission of $400 only once. Over 5 years a subscription product like this can pay $1200. With many of these it’s obvious that this will soon mount up. Just selling 10 subscription products gives you a monthly income of $200, at $20 a month each.
